Astoundingly, this breathtaking stone slab has an assemblage of 31 fossil fish - 29 Knightia eocaena, 1 Mioplosus labracoides and 1 Diplomystus dentatus. Here, they are preserved in a gorgeous, natural arrangement, balanced and with a sense of movement. Also known as a mortality plate, the quality of preservation is amazing - pieces like this are uncommon.

These fish swam in ancient Eocene lakes in Wyoming, USA, 50 million years ago and were discovered in the famous Green River Formation, known to produce some of the most spectacular vertebrate fossils. Interestingly, larger Diplomystus have even been found with small Knightia preserved in their mouths!

It took hours of painstaking work by a professional fossil preparator to reveal the fine bones of these fossil fish from the stone. Surely, it was worth the effort to bring these ancient fish to life.

The slab of stone measures 74 x 24 inches.

The slab is ready to hang flush on a wall with a French cleat system, either horizontally or vertically

All fish naturally found in this arrangement in the slab - no insetting.
