Fossil Water Strider from Solnhofen, Germany
$1,600.00 USD
- This is a rare and superb example of a fossil water strider from the famous lithographic limestones of Solnhofen, in southern Germany.
- Unlike many of the fossil insects from Solnhofen, this plate is not broken and re-glued. It measures 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) by 6.5 inches (16.5 cm). The body measures 2 inches long (5 cm) and the longest legs measure 3 inches (7.5 cm), and weighs 730 grams.
- This specimen was found in the same region (Solnhoffen, Germany) where Archaeopteryx - the feathered dinosaur - was found in 1861.
