The Oued El Hamim meteorite, discovered in Libya in 2024, is a rare lunar fragmental breccia, meaning it originated from the Moon and consists of various rock fragments cemented together. Unique to this meteorite is evidence of aqueous alteration, suggesting it was exposed to water on the Moon, a notable feature for lunar materials. Its composition includes plagioclase, olivine, and clinopyroxene, with reddish-brown olivines altered to an iddingsite-like phase, likely due to interaction with water

How this Moon rock reached Earth is truly remarkable:

An asteroid impact on the Moon forceful ejected surface rock, sending it on a journey thoroughly space (384,000 km in our direction), and it ultimately fell to Earth as a meteorite! Interestingly, a lunar meteorite is identified by comparing its mineralogical and chemical composition to Moon rocks brought home to Earth from the Apollo and Luna missions.
